I think everyone of us heard the question at least a hundred times: what would you like to be when you grow up? We’ve heard it in school, at home, from our close ones and even strangers. Of course, asking a child what his (or hers) dream job is is purely for adult entertainmant but as we grow older we think about this more and more.
There are few people who manage to follow their dreams and a lot who give up. Though, if you think about it, you’ll see that getting a job that fits your needs is hard, but worth trying.
A job is something you have to live with for the rest of your life (if you don’t change them like underwear) so before getting your dream job you first have to know what you are looking for.
Do you like music? maybe you could be a musician. Does technology attract you more that it does others? you could become an engineer.
This is basicaly your first step in finding your perfect job: think about your hobbies, what do you like to do? Explore the things you do on a regular basis and see if among them you find a hobby that could later become a source of income.
When you have your answer to step one, move on to step two: improvement. You need to see how you can improove your skills. You can’t become a chef if you have no idea how to make mashed potatoes, right?
Now that you have a decision made, go for it. Step three is to see what education you need, what are the newest trends, how can you be better than others in order to be able to build a career based on your hobby.
Noone said getting a pleasant job is easy. On the contrary, you have to work hard to get it. There is no magic formula for having a dream job so stop looking for it and start to work, work, work.
If you manage to combine a hobby with work you can consider yourself lucky. If not, all you can do is make peace with what you have and maybe try again. You never know when a door opens and you might find yourself among the lucky ones.
