Get a timetable and stick to it

You most likely already know that having a timetable for your blog posts is a good idea and it can help both you and your readers get into a schedule and stick to it. You should have a timetable for the following reasons.

For you.

It helps you know what you have to do on the day and will also get you focused on doing that work for the day and then doing other things online. If you have a strict timetable you will feel better because you know what has to be done and when so you are not forgetting about other things that are supposed to of been done.

Your readers.

Your readers will also get into a set with your timetable and will start to notice when things happen. They will come to your blog at certain times and expect the content because you have set times for everything. Readers will like the professionalism and will know what to expect on your blog and when to expect it.

So timetables really help to keep things in line but when you first set one you could become lazy and not follow it. This will make things harder for you and your readers. You need to get yourself into a routine and then your members will also follow the routine. If you break it then work will become delayed and you will have a lot more to do and also members may become scared away or bored waiting for you to make the content if you break the routine.

Sometimes it may not be possible to keep to the timetable. Here we aim for a post a day from one of the writers but that may not always be the case because we do all have our own life and time or inspiration may get in the way of the timetable. We like to think our members understand that and are not worried but having a timetable that you stick to will make it much better and you will start to see much more of an improvement. For example. if you are getting an article out a day it will get more readers to your blog and more comments because they are coming back daily to read the new and interesting things you have wrote about. Sometimes breaking it is okay but you should try and stick to it as much as possible. I will now share some tips that you should try and keep to when using your timetable.

Make it possible.

Create a timetable that is possible for you to follow. Do not make it so that you have to do a lot of work in one day and then none on the others. If you ask to much of yourself you will become upset that you are not able to complete all of the work set. Create an even spread of work to complete throughout the week.

Give yourself time off.

Everyone will eventually need a day or two off during a week. So take that into account when making a timetable but when having days of try and do things that you will be able to write about and keep a notepad with you in case you get ideas for articles to write about when that time comes. On days off I try and do things that I would be able to write about. For example I researched the OUYA for a couple of hours for my time off because computers and gaming are my hobby and then I wrote about that.

Spread the workload with others.

If you have other writers, editors, admins on your blog then you might want to share the work with them. You could tell them that you need them to write 3 articles a week whilst you write 4 and promote the blog, research and do other duties.

Schedule posts.

This one may of been brought up multiple times and you most likely already know to do this but making a schedule for your posts will help you. There is no guarantee you will be online every day so I tend to write a few articles a day and then schedule them throughout the week.

My question for all readers this time would be, if you have a timetable, do you give yourself days off and are you able to keep up with it? My timetable is always changing because I have forum work to do on other forums as well as work here and keep up with my life so mine changes a lot but I am able to cope with my work load.

    • Yes that is where some issues come in. I suppose you could possibly pay editors to make news posts during that time if you have the money. Hard position to be in because news changes so you can not schedule but many might go away from your blog if the news is not updated.

  1. These are certainly some great reasons to create and stick to a timetable, Roach. I have a schedule for my own blog, but sometimes find that I’m a bit lax with it when I shouldn’t be. I do try to stick to it though and I’m generally successful with doing that, but a lot of the time life gets in the way unfortunately.

    • Life issues getting in the way can be annoying however sometimes they help. We would go crazy if we were blogging 24/7 so the break from it sometimes helps even if we want to be online.
